Clonmellon locals held a public awareness rally to emphasize the urgent need for traffic calming measures in our village. They are urging all drivers to slow down, adhere to speed limits, and remain especially mindful of Clonmellon National School, which is centrally located on the N52.

A petition calling for traffic calming measures has gathered 305 signatures from their village’s population of 703. This petition was presented to local councillors, Niall Gaffney and David Jones, who formally raised the motion for traffic safety improvements at the Kinnegad Mullingar District Meeting on Monday, February 10th.

Their request received unanimous support from all councillors in attendance. As a result, the district council has passed the motion and assured the public that further action will be taken. Locals said they remain optimistic that this issue will now receive the attention it deserves from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Westmeath County Council.

Their goal is now to ensure that concrete measures are implemented to enhance road safety, protecting both residents and schoolchildren in Clonmellon. “We will continue to advocate for meaningful action and look forward to seeing real progress in the near future.”
